At my first RS-1 Joe Pierce, the 1st teacher, kept talking about this “new thing” EI was doing, called “religious houses.” I asked him exactly what is a religious house and he said, “It’s kind of a hang out for revolutionaries.”
I have a warm spot in my heart for them but, like facilitation, etc., I have to remind myself that they were essential tools for doing the the mission, but they were never the mission. I wish the institutional church had, years ago, realized that the mission was never to build more churches or to get more people to join the church, as an end in itself or as a means to keep the institution thriving. Religious houses, as Jim said, “enabled so many other things.”
