April is National Poetry Month. And the planet is suffering, humans are suffering, the nation is suffering, humans are suffering, beings of all kinds are suffering. I took some liberties with the following posted poem. I think Pete Seeger and Joe Hickerson would have written lyrics for our current situation!

Consequences of Koyaanisqatsi: a Lamentation
(Life out of balance-a Native American Hopi word)
(Dedicated to Pete Seeger & Joe Hickerson)

Where have all the flowers gone
The flowers gone
The flowers gone
Where have all the flowers gone
Under concrete everyone
When will we ever learn
Ever learn
Ever learn

Where have all the forests gone
The forests gone
The forests gone
Where have all the forests gone
Burned to ashes everyone
When will we ever learn
Ever learn
Ever learn

Where have all the grasslands gone
The grasslands gone
The grasslands gone
Where have all the grasslands gone
Gone to desert every one
When will we ever learn
Ever learn
Ever learn

Where have all the oceans gone
The oceans gone
The oceans gone
Where have all the oceans gone
Full of acid every one
When will we ever learn
Ever learn
Ever learn

Where have all the species gone
The species gone
The species gone
Where have all the species gone
To extinction every one
When will we ever learn
Ever learn
Ever learn

Where have all the humans gone
The humans gone
The humans gone
Where have all the humans gone
Joined the species every one
When will we ever learn
Ever learn
Ever learn

Where has all the concrete gone
The concrete gone
The concrete gone
Where has all the concrete gone
Sprouting flowers in the sun
No time then left to learn
No time to learn
No time to learn
