Ian McGilchrist is right about a metaphor. He is mistaken in his two dimensions of two aspects: one static, fixed, isolated and certain and the other as flowing, changing connected and uncertain. There are two dimensions, but three parts. Time / Space are measurements that are not separate from existence. They only measure existence. There is only “there-ness” and “not there-ness”. Another way to put that is Form and Emptiness. But emptiness is the eternal, not nothing. Put another way; there is Thing and No-thing. All “things" participate in both, like an electron is both a particle and a wave at the same time! We used the metaphor of The Other World (in the midst of this world) to try and communicate this truth. But remember, the Other World is neutral, in the sense that it isn’t “better” than this world. You can get the “feeling” of oneness from so many unhelpful ways and it feels grand. In fact the brain is built to try and fulfill that oneness, that eternal. But it never can, for it is not G-O-D. Gene Marshall does a great job on this truth in illuminating Original Sin. Humankind wants to know what is good and what is evil. It wants to be GOD. That “sin” cannot be forgiven because that it is wanting to be the final judge of things, it wants to be GOD. 

 Life is the Eternal Now. The past is alive now, the future is alive: now. The past can not be changed, but it can be redeemed. The future is Open, life is possibility. And we are free to say yes or no at every moment. And that answer is always done in the profound stance of Humility (I do not know if this is “right” but I act). And every moment is filled with Gratitude for whatever we do, for any action (thought, word or deed) is already forgiven and incorporated into the life emerging. And every moment is filled with Compassion, the eternal Love within which we can be compassionate and loving, or at least an instrument thereof. We put these three in an order: Humility - Gratitude -Compassion, as the “moods” of the three acts of worship. But all three are happening at once. JWM spoke of this in his talks and writings on Justification and Sanctification. Being lifted up and and then having the 10 ton crane to carry with no floor! They feel sequential, but they are both always Now. 

And thus the cross and the empty tomb. They are one.
