I knew nothing of this and we were in Australia two years. Stuart went to Oombulgurri…
Painful.
Do we know what happened to any of the people we knew?

What a story about Oombulgurri, which I confess I had never heard! There are so many such stories in the slow, surging, halting, re-starting, faltering, courageous, celebrating, failing, re-committing march of the civilizing adventure we are a part of! I consider the little blip of energy we put into FOOD FOR ALL project another lesson learned in how fragile but dedicated are the forces at work for advancement of the human experiment as well as how relentless are those against, meaning the work is never done and every generation must raise its People for the next halting step into the future. Especially with the accelerating disaster facing us with global warming. But just to add a few names to those Lynda Cock mentioned with our fifteen year experiment with FOOD FOR ALL, in addition to Georgianna McBurney (and George who gave generously of his legal experience and money): John Oyler and Kitty Cole, who served on our International grant-making board, Sharon Robertson and Don Cramer, who facilitated many of our “End Hunger Forums,” Gary Forbes and Gordon Harper, who facilitated strategic planning with our Boards and volunteers, Joan Knutson and Maxine Butcher, who chaired two of our local grant boards, David McClesky, who helped us install our program in Illinois, and Frank Knutson, who served on our staff for several years. Many others I can’t remember at the moment volunteered in small and not-so-small ways. It’s our honor to be with you all on this journey. Milan and Linda

Thank you again Elaine for stating this. I remember being taken to the site when I visited Oombulgurri in 1976.
O God, hear our prayer, is all I can say.

Yes all those of us who lived and worked with the Oombulgurri community in the 1970's knew of the massacre
and could take you to the site which was not above the river but on a ridge called the 'jump up', overlooking the community
where we understand some were pushed over to their deaths.
As you say, very sad and hard to come to terms with.

We were painfully moved to see this article on Oombulgurri's history
today. This sort of massacre was all to common in Australia in the
past, but we did not know that Oombulgurri had also been affected. I'm
not even sure that our colleagues who were there in the 70's knew about
it, at least no one ever mentioned it to us.
All the more to everyone's credit for how much people there were able to
accomplish.
