[Oe List ...] A Thought. Sorry for the delay

Dharma, I hope not to offend you, but I would just suggest that unless you lived through the terror of the Japanese war, it is possible you may not really know the full story. I was born in the Philippines during that war, and I have no doubt the drastic and horrible effect of Hiroshima and Nagasake was imperative.
Please know that I do not hold accountable in any way the descendants of the Japanese who perpetrated that nation’s war crimes. I have very close friends in Japan—one couple (who lived with us when they came to the U.S. for a 6-month training period with my husband’s company) called my late husband and me their “American Papa and Mama.” After my husband died, they came to the U.S. to visit his grave. I was treated as part of their family for their son’s wedding a few years ago. And I treasure my friendship with the lovely Japanese woman who translated into English a book written by the Japanese officer who hunted my parents in the Philippines during the war. She arranged for contact with that officer, who asked for my forgiveness, which I freely gave. And of course, I adore Shizuyo Sato, with whom I became good friends during my time in the Balkans when we shared a hotel room and worked together during the UN Women’s Conference in Beijing and later during the conference in Japan that she and Wayne organized.
I wish there had been another way to end the war. But I believe the action taken was necessary. There is ample evidence that it was only after the bombing that Japan decided to surrender, contrary to reports that Japan was losing the war and would have been defeated without it. And how can one condone the horrible massacres of prisoners in Japanese concentration camps in the Philippines as the American troops were moving in to rescue them (e.g., throwing the American POWs into hastily dug trenches with tanks of kerosene and burning them alive when the Japanese soldiers knew their release was imminent)? The torture and brutality was no less horrific (and in some cases worse) than what the Germans did to the Jews.

I've been reading "The Future of Mankind" by Chardin
http://www.religion-online.org/showchapter.asp?title=2287&C=2169
I'm disturbed to find how he glosses over the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. He even refers to the "bold experimenters in Arizona" and notes that "they were praying" as they experimented with the bomb. To me, that chapter supports the official fiction of the US government that they designed and used the bomb for the benefit of mankind rather than their desire to dominate and exploit other nations. Chardin's Mass on the World is moving to listen to but his position on this major event, which to me exemplifies "evil", reveals that he is either naive or is alienated from reality. Now I wonder if his mass and other poetry is one of the opiates that religion has been accused of producing.

I watched an hour-long interview of Thomas Berry re Teilhard's philosophy. He said his theology was the greatest turning point since Paul, AND that Teilhard did not see mankind in communion with the rest of creation, but as the dominant party. I didn't state it as well as Thomas did, but you can find it by following links.

Was he not referring to the internal Spirit fire?

Did Teilhard glorify the atomic bomb?
Just watched that very powerful video and went through the links that followed till I came to this very disturbing statement: After the Bikini test, Teilhard exclaimed that the new bombs “show a humanity which is at peace both internally [217] and externally.” And he added beatifically, “they announce the coming of the spirit on earth.”
Would like to hear from those who have studied his works.
