Hi Jean - try Mama Cass Elliot - New World Coming 1970
a much 'softer' tone than our pulsing version with 1500 people at Malcome X College in Summer '71 :-)

jean long here -
The tune was the one sung by the Seekers, I think, to their song:
There's a new world somewhere they call the promised land
- and I'll be there someday if you will hold my hand -
I could search the whole world over until my life is thru,
but I know I'll never find another you.
chorus:
It's a long, long journey
so stay by my side
xxxxxxxx
xxxxxxx
2nd verse-
If they gave me a fortune my treasure would be small
I could lose it all tomorrow and never mind at all.
but if I should lose your love, dear, I don't know what I'd do
'cause I know there'll never be another you- ou ou ou ou -
another you.
...and for those of you who can remember the magic -- my reminder that when we did the year of the Love Songs we contexted them by a suggestion that the "you" referred to might be replaced by "the mystery" -- and the songs were transformed - for me at least.

Ellie,
I agree that Earth is a more appropriate word than World. World is a political term, Earth is more comprehensive. As one of our best song writers I trust your judgements and would urge you to do the editing to bring that song into our lexicon we can sing with gusto and Spirit!
Thanks!
Jack

PENECOST HYMN
Tune: There's New World Coming
Like the sound of heaven with the rushing of the wind
Came the fire a-burning and new life was given to all
The young see visions and the old dream dreams
Born of fire, filled with power, for the world.
To the light from darkness, and to freedom from fear
Building from the ashes into one community
Peter, Paul, and Luther, Augustine and Benedict
Born of fire, filled with power, for the world.
With despair abounding and a lack of hope around
Still the Spirit comes to the ones who birth the day
Giving breath and being to the ones who give their death
Born of fire, filled with power, for the world.
For the coming ages and the journey of mankind
We claim the promise that the fire give life to them
Deciding freely to live on behalf of all
Born of fire, filled with power, for the world.

This song was a powerful one for me, even with its old style gender. I never did find a replaceable word that fit the meter and the meaning. Wish I could hear some of our great voices and our not so great voices singing this on this Pentecost Sunday. I recall how the harmony filled the room with its power. Sing out wherever you are! Tune: There's New World Coming
Like the sound of heaven with the rushing of the wind
Came the fire a-burning and new life was given to men.

To the light from darkness, and to freedom from fear
Building from the ashes into one community

Born of fire, filled with power, for all men.
