During the past year Linda and I have become involved with a unique
nonprofit organization which works with the poorest of the poor communities
in Mexico. Linda has been working with the ten member staff and board. We
have completed a much needed strategic plan with the Board. We got
acquainted with Corazon through our friends and colleagues Roger and Maxine
Butcher, who have been volunteering for a decade as a retirement project.
Maxine is now on the board. The organization began with a unique approach
of building a house in one day and has grown into a full-blown community
development approach. You can go to the nonprofit's web site at
www.corazon.org <http://www.corazon.org> to see the full scope of their
work.

I am a late-comer volunteer for Corazon, because I discovered that one of
the initiatives they are exploring is a "computer learning lab." Corazon
works with seven local communities involving hundreds of families in Tijuana
and Tecate. I have committed myself to help with technical support. This
means I am looking for donated computers that I can refurbish and set up for
them. What this will mean is that students will be able to learn the basics
of how to work with computers, and more importantly, be able to complete
homework assignments as they are attempting to advance their skills and
knowledge toward getting their education.

So, here's the deal. I am looking for used, but functional computers
(preferably laptops and tablets) that I can refurbish and provide to the
organization. Unfortunately, I am not able to pay the shipping, but I am
able to provide the time and energy to get the computer working. If you
have a computer (windows XP is OK-Microsoft no longer supports the operating
system but it will work just fine for our purposes).

If you have an older computer or laptop or tablet that you are no longer
using and would be willing to ship it to me, I promise I will be able to
wipe any left-over files and get it working, if possible. You can contact
me at (909) 793-4482, or E-mail me at mellowmilan2 at gmail.com
<mailto:mellowmilan2 at gmail.com> . Meanwhile, check out this organization's
web site. You might be impressed. MM
