Several mornings during archive sojourns over the past few years,
whoever was around in the morning gathered in the ICA kitchen for
animated conversation, and often, story telling by Marge.
The Print Shop Story

One summer, JWM assigned Marge to work in the print shop during the
summer program, knowing fully well she had no experience in print shop
running. He must also have known she would take on the task with good
spirits and creativity. Her one request was for two men who did not have
family responsibilities and who would not go to the bathroom without
asking permission. By this time Marge was fully aware of time demands
of working on any project during the summer program. So... knowing her
hours would be long, Marge went to Sears and bought two blue dresses.
She would wear one of the blue dresses, shower in it, so both Marge and
the dress would be clean. She would sleep a few hours, put on the second
blue dress and head to the print shop for another day - and repeat the
process during the whole summer program. She did not go into the
condition of the dresses following her stint in the print shop.

This just one of the many tales the archives worker bees heard. Each is
a unique delight delivered by possibly the most amazing story teller in
the EI/ICA. Working with Marge is a good reason for anyone to come for a
couple of weeks working in the ICA Archives.
