[Oe List ...] A Mini-Library for a 21st Century Spirit Movement

I got to "teach" the Power of Myth" to Japan Psychological Services staff when I was in Japan. Using our methods with that book and these open Japanese people kept me spiritually alive while living there. It was a life changer for me. Joan Knutson

The thing is, Randy, I never read the book, only watched the Campbell Moyers videos. Perhaps others will respond and we can get some memory channels going.

The Joseph Campbell/Bill Moyers book is The Power of Myth. Another of Campbell's books that I would include is The Hero with a Thousand Faces. Also, Global Mind Change by Willis Harman, Leadership and the New Science by Margaret Wheatley, The Fifth Discipline by Peter Senge and Stewardship:Choosing Service Over Self-Interest by Peter Block. There probably should be something on the list about Servant Leadership. Robert Greenleaf gets credit for having coined the phrase, but in my opinion others have written on the subject more lucidly than he did. I would also include Education for Critical Consciousness by Paulo Friere and I and Thou by Martin Buber. These last two, written in the early or mid-20th Century, are both pretty timeless.

Will respond but may take a week or so. Ireceived an email from Gene and he said he was developing a list fordescendants of Joe Matthews. That casts some light on why he chose the books hedid.

I looked at the heading “A Mini-Libraryfor a 21st Century Spirit Movement” and didn’t see that as callingfor books from our people but rather as books we would choose if we were againgoing to build the essential library for a 21st Century SpiritMovement. So when I respond I will be thinking about the books that have cometo mean a lot to me and guide me in the 21st century.

I would be interested in what you andothers would put on such a list. So also please send the names of a few booksyou would put on the list.
