[Dialogue] [Oe List ...] Can you recall?

Spirit conversations on social anger are highly relevant today: polarization, demonization of immigrants and people of color, anger about the economy and state of the world, climate change and impending crisis, anger from youth about the world they’ve been left with and not enough done to mitigate due to powerful interests.
My son says a lot of people his age carry anger and sorrow, sorrow that millions or even billions could be left behind or die due to ecological collapse, economic chaos and collapse of democratic systems, starting with the most vulnerable. As authoritarianism increasingly becomes a dominant mode; it blocks civic engagement and thus blocks local and regional participation to create new responses and solutions.
Our study of Choosing Earth could be a future venue, among other avenues, to engage youth along with cross generational conversations for discussion and engagement to create a future for all: as we must never loose hope, never give in to despair or apathy.
Toward creating a future for all of life,Debra Harris WatsonHouston

And don't forget about the spirit conversations about social anger. They were either in 1968 or 1970, and had a profound effect on me, as a young person.I don't recall the questions but they might be relevant today.

There was some question that connected the two parts — a question to ground the quote in current everyday experience.
I remember two anecdotes about these conversations. One was from Peoria in 1973-4 where Wayne’s and my clock radio would wake us to a program called “Waste Not Want Not”, an environmental program. So we had lots of environmental news over breakfast that year!
The other story is from Bayad, where Abuna Mateus, the local Coptic Priest usually joined us for breakfast. Josip Tito from Yugoslavia was ill, and Abuna, who heard the Arabic news on the radio but had limited English would always have the news event “Tito has a stomachache.”

Take care,Jo

In the early days (67-72??), we did scripture conversations as a community over breakfast paired with news conversations. Later on (76 ff??), there were quote conversations from those little dark red covered journals that the research people provided also paired with news conversations.  I think, during the Kamweleni human development training schools (79-83??) we had 7 quotes which we cycled through each week.
Can you all help me to recall the questions which were used??
Son Shanker's church is going through the book of Proverbs in July (31 chapters / 31 days) and we are going through the week's chapters on Thursdays after dinner.
This is what I recallSCRIPTURE / QUOTERead the verse/quote outloud.  Maybe read it a second time? What are the key words?  What words might we substitute for those words? So, How might you say this quote / verse in your own words?-------then I get lost
NEWSWhat are 1 or 2 news events of the last day or so?Which one should we talk about?
--------- then I get lost
I do remember, in Kamweleni, we had a battery operated radio and Sam Were and some of the other faculty would sit out in the sun in the morning and listen to the Voice of Kenya . . .

Hi Folks,
July 4, 2025, yes, celebrating the birth of a nation and the principles of democracy but also a time to reflect and expand our vision as a nation to celebrate and live into a Declaration of Interdependence.
