[Dialogue] Four Giant Men

In the December Archive sojourn, we read excerpts from Hesse’s Journey to the East which I paraphrase here: It was our destiny to join in a great experience; we were all permitted to be a participant in a unique journey. What wonder it had …. Four giant men who participated with us on the unique journey - the crimson line - have left us within a month: Joe Crocker (April 27), Bud Ames (May 4), Nelson Stover (May 4) and Bill Grow (May 14). See memorials created to celebrate their lives here: https://icaglobalarchives.org/memorials/ (Bill’s is yet to come).

For those of you who may not be as familiar with the Ames family, Bud and his wife, Jan, were Guardians who gave ground support to 5th City and the EI/ICA for some thirty years they lived in Oak Park/Chicago. While Jan taught in the 5th City Preschool and directed Training Inc. in DuPage County, Bud was the permeator of the family. However, while the Human Development Project consults were happening, Dr. Ames, in his quiet gracious manner would attend the consults as a veterinarian and work with the Agriculture Teams and introduce them to animal husbandry methods. He turned his daily running into supporting passions he had to address poverty and hunger by raising thousands of dollars for Heifer International.

For these four giants, we are singing, "When Iron Men go marching in”.

Peace,

Karen Snyder Troxel
