Rob,

I thought a lot about your family and the Reverend as I recently read Lisa See’s wonderful novel The Island of Sea Women about the “haenyeo” of Jeju. I think I was a little jealous that I’d never been there.

Blessings,

Sunny

Dear Rob,

Thanks for this news.

We remember The Rev Kang Byoung Hoon and other clergy from South Korea at the Singapore ITI.’69. And our time at the ITI in Kwangyung Il- Ri. All those years ago. An unforgettable experience…

Thank you for shaking up the memory bank Rob.

With love, and peace is ours,

Isobel Bishop.

Dear colleagues,

I thought that some of you would enjoy hearing news from our colleague, Rev. Dr. Kang Byoung Hoon, in Seoul. Rev. Kang called me last night and we had a wonderful conversation. He sounds strong and clear and happy. In addition to asking about my family, he asked how other people were doing who had worked in South Korea over the years. He asked me to send him a copy of the ICA Directory which I have just done. I also sent him the URL for the website of the ICA archives/social research center. He talked about the celebrations taking place this month: the 88th birthdays of his wife Mrs. Park Jae Eun and himself, and their 60th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Park has been in the hospital for the past six months. One of their daughters returned to Korea from the US to be with her mother. She is returning now, and another daughter will be coming for a few months. All four of the Kang's children are both ordained and have their doctorates. He asked for the phone numbers of my two sons. He spoke of his love for so many people in the OE/ICA.

I will ever be grateful for the six years my family and I worked in South Korea with Rev Kang and so many other dear colleagues. Long live beloved Korea!

In mystery, love, and gratitude,

Rob
