FOOTPRINTSOF SIKAAKWA
Footprintsof Sikaakwa
journeyedlakeshore sands,
creaturesspinning stories
inwinds haunting the land,
swimming,creeping, crawling—they came;
flying,walking, stalking—they gamed;
hunters,warriors, growers—they remained,
livinglightly on the earth of Sikaakwa.
Footprintsof Sikaakwa
turnedrivers, changed terrain,
pavingtrails and forging rails,
farmways to factory days—
exploring,trading, supplanting—they came;
building,inventing, investing—they gamed,
artist,industrialist, politician—they remained,
sculptingrising skyline peaks of Chicago.
Footprintsof Sikaakwa
convergedfrom all directions,
culturesclashed and merged,
stewingdesire and introspection—
laboratoryof urban life—they came;
microcosmof courage and strife—they gamed;
movementscalling for justice—they remained,
stirringbrewing cauldron hope of Chicago.
Footprintsof Sikaakwa
blazenew community,
peopleworking together
tothrive sustainably—
welcomingyoung and old—they came;
joiningthe gifts of all—they gamed;
wakingto Earth’s vision—they remained,
livingboldly a real dream of Chicago.
