Soon to be released:

The Enigma of Consciousness
A philosophy of profound humanness and religion
by Gene Marshall

Colleagues of Consciousness & Care:

In his 81st year, Gene Marshall is about to publish his 'magnum opus' "The Enigma of Consciousness".

It is a revolutionary statement. I have just listened to his 25 minute 'tour' - the link is found below, as is the table of contents.

In reading chapter drafts, my own attention was especially drawn to this example of Gene's original thought on the three approaches to consciousness:

-the 'it' approach; the bottomless mystery encountered in the edges of any and all scientific enquiry
-the 'I' approach; grace in the depths in individual artistic, literary and spirit expression
-the 'we' approach; the inclusive compassion experienced in collective celebration and care

In Gene's words: "Here is an interesting discovery I have seen nowhere else: When the "It" approach to truth is pushed to its fullness we encounter the 'Almighty Mystery'. When the "I" approach to truth is pushed to it fullness we find the 'Holy Spirit'. When the "We" approach to truth is pushed to its fullness we enter the 'Body of Christ'."
This book is about what we affectionately entitled 'The New Religious Mode'. It's complement on 'The New Social Vehicle' is available under the title "The Road from Empire to Eco-Democracy". Gene is amongst the very first to use the term 'eco-democracy' substantively.

I will follow this up with a notice of availability for purchase at a later date.

Dear Colleagues,

With Maryellen Greulich's help I have been able to put a 25 minute talk about this book on the Realistic Living web site.

This talk is an overview of the whole book that may help you see more clearly why it might be worth your time to slug your way through the 35 chapters of this book.

Here is how you can access this talk. Go to RealisticLiving.org and click the link 'Enigma' that you will see there.

Your responses to this talk might open some conversation and perhaps help me learn how to involve more people in this important conversation.

Gene
