Dear Jim,

We must take seriously the comment that the transestablishment does not exist.  What that means is that the true church does not exist, that absolute freedom does not exist, that compassion toward the fullness of Reality does not exist, that trust in the full horror and glory of Reality does not exist.  The confusion here is in the word "exist."  That word is most often used to mean something temporal that comes and goes. But true church, freedom, compassion, trust does not come and go; these qualities simply ARE. They ARE the ETERNAL in incarnate manifestation. This explodes the word "exist."

The term "Those who care" tends to cloud the depth of this insight, for clearly both the establishment and the disestablishment contain some members of whom it can be said that they are among "Those who care."  But now we have to push the word "care."  For the proestablishment persons certainly do care about the continuation or restoration of what they feel is properly established.  And the disestablishment persons do care about the discontinuation of what they feel is properly discontinued.  But if the word care is allowed to deepen infinitely, then we enter a realm of awareness in which we can begin to envision three things:  What needs to be preserved, what needs to be discontinued, and what needs to be invented out of nothing, brought into existence from the Void of absolute freedom.

This transestablishment vision brings together parts of the establishment with parts of disestabishment into a transestablishment program of action that identifies two huge enemies: the reactionary proestablishment and the futilitarian disestablishment.  We see this in the political realm in the polarity of reactionary conservatives and absolute anarchists. We see this within historical Christianity in the polarity of two-story literalists and one-story antitheists. The transestablishment is a sort of middle ground that is actually neither left nor right but way ahead. The transesblishment are "Those who Care" in an intensified depth of Care. And Mathews so often pointed out, such Care includes a willingness to live this depth of integrity unto death.  Both establishment and disestablishment forces are ready with their crosses.
